FLOOD INSURANCE INFORMATION

There have been a lot of questions concerning flood insurance available to businesses and homeowners in Chattooga County. Flood Insurance through the NFIP is available to homeowners, business owners, and renters.  The only limitation on who can buy coverage is that they live in an NFIP participating community.  All of Chattooga County and its municipalities participate.

Structures do not have to be located in a mapped floodplain area to purchase flood insurance. It is a common misconception that you have to be in a special flood hazard area (SHFA-100yr, 500yr, etc.) to purchase flood insurance.

Floodsmart.gov has a lot of information available for people interested in flood insurance. Call your insurance agent, the same person who sells your home or auto insurance. If you need help finding an insurance provider, use the NFIP’s insurance provider locator.
